In 2000 Kevin Ryan wanted to incorporate the Laskin armrest into the design of his next guitar model. By extending the armrest so that it began at the waist of the guitar and continued all the way to the tailblock, Kevin created a bevel that accommodates many playing positions. The design elegantly interprets the lines of the lower bout of the instrument while allowing room for the bevel itself. The added benefit of his bevel, according to Ryan is a guitar with a large body volume and a comparatively small top that can balance the low end of the instrument. The result is the Cathedral model that Ryan Guitars introduced in 2002 and, of course, the Ryan Bevel.
With Kevin and Grit's permission, I now offer the Ryan Bevel.
