JB-28, JB-30 & FB-28 Baritones

Baritone guitars are designed to be tuned lower than standard guitars, usually a 4th or 5th below standard pitch. This means that whereas standard tuning is EADGBE, a baritone guitar might be tuned to BEADF#B (4th) or ADGCEA (5th). Its voice is deep, round, and robust.

The Berkowitz baritone guitars were designed for John Jennings, co-producer and guitarist for Mary Chapin Carpenter. Jennings owns the JB-30 prototype, which he has used on albums by Mary Chapin Carpenter, John Gorka (Between Five and Seven, “Paradise, Once” ) and by Darol Anger (Heritage). Jennings said it’s “the cello of guitars.” Anger lauded Jennings’s instrument as being “the guitar from which all guitars emanate.” The JB-28 and JB-30 baritone guitars are built on the J-6 jumbo body; the FB-28 is built on the F-6 Concert. The JB-30, JB-28, and FB-28 guitars are available with cutaways as well as with the Wedge™ bidiretional body taper.
